Graduate Staff Assistant (GSA) Positions are Available for the Summer 2026 Semester
Position Summary and Duties
The College of Nursing seeks a reliable and detail-oriented Graduate Assistant to support administrative and academic operations. This position works closely with the Office of Academic Affairs, the Office of the Dean, and the Clinical Education Department to ensure efficient documentation, file management, and event support. The Graduate Assistant must be able to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare documents, correspondence, and letters for the Office of Academic Affairs
- Maintain and organize files for the Office of Academic Affairs in accordance with college and university standards
- Assist the Clinical Education Department with preparation of materials for upper-division student applications
- Support course syllabus collection, filing, and record maintenance
- Assist the Office of the Dean with special projects as assigned
- Provide support for College of Nursing events, including preparation, coordination, and on-site assistance
- Perform additional administrative duties as needed to support college operations
Time Commitment:
This position requires a commitment of 20 hours per week, with hours varying by faculty member. Some individual hours are scheduled based on faculty teaching schedules, most commonly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and/or Fridays. The remaining weekly hours are flexible and may be arranged around the GIA’s academic schedule. The period of employment follows the academic calendar, and the GIA must be available through the end of each semester’s examination period.

SCHC 390 Graduate Instructor
Job Summary
SCHC 390 is a mandatory one-credit course in which Honors students prepare for their senior thesis by developing a research question, analyzing current, relevant scholarship in an annotated bibliography, drafting an 8-to-12-page thesis proposal, and finding a full-time faculty member to serve as a thesis director.
In-person sections of the course meet once each week for 50 minutes. The graduate instructor will be responsible for teaching three in-person sections of SCHC 390 (a total of three credit hours).
The position runs 8/18/26 to 5/8/27, with the option to renew for the next academic year. It is a part-time, hourly, 10-hour-per week position. Instructors will be compensated $24.21/hour, a total of $4,600 per semester. Please note that this position is not a graduate assistantship and does not include tuition reductions.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver the existing SCHC 390 curriculum, prepare course syllabi, evaluate and grade student work, maintain required records (including attendance and grades), and hold regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students. The graduate instructor will also assist with SCHC thesis events or activities (such as the Fall Research Forum and Spring Thesis Symposium) when needed.
Eligibility Criteria
This position is open to USC graduate students in any program. Please note that graduate students may not work more than 20 hours per week, so applicants with other campus jobs for Fall 2026 or Spring 2027 exceeding 10 hours per week are ineligible. Graduate students hired for this position must have completed the Grad 701 TA Training Course or be concurrently enrolled when they begin the position.

SCHC 390 Grader (Fall 2026 – Spring 2027)
Job Summary
SCHC 390 is a mandatory one-credit, asynchronous, online course in which SCHC students prepare for their senior thesis. Graders will be responsible for grading five assignments for the course during the semester and will work with the SCHC 390 instructor to provide timely and detailed feedback on student work.
This 10-hour-per-week position is a fantastic opportunity to work with high-achieving students on a wide array of creative and innovative thesis projects. Aside from occasional team meetings or events, the position is primarily remote/virtual. Assuming deadlines are met, hours are flexible. All grading will be completed via Blackboard.
The position runs from 8/18/26 to 5/8/27. Instructors will be compensated $20.53/hour, a total of $3,900 per semester. Please note that no tuition assistance or benefits will be offered.
Key Responsibilities
- Grade and provide timely, detailed feedback for four SCHC 390 assignments during the semester.
- Work with SCHC 390 instructor to develop and deliver one short presentation to students.
- Assist with thesis events or activities (such as the Fall Thesis Forum and Spring Thesis Symposium) when needed.
- Participate in occasional team meetings and thesis events.
