Citizenship & Residency

The state of South Carolina requires students attending a public university in the state to provide proof of citizenship or lawful immigration certification.

Proof of Citizenship

All students must provide confirmation that they are a citizen/national of the United States or lawfully present in the country.

U.S. Citizens

Submit Citizenship Verification

Submit your verification as instructed on the Registrar's Citizenship page prior to registering for classes. 

Non-U.S. Citizens

Immigration Documentation 

If you are not a U.S. citizen/national, you must submit your immigration documentation to International Student Services.  

 

Proof of South Carolina Legal Residency 

Submit SC Residency Certification Form 

Students must submit proof of SC Residency in order to billed at the instate tuition rate.  This form does not apply for non-residents receiving an assistantship or fellowship.

You will be asked for... 
  • SC Driver’s License Number
  • SC Car Registration Information
  • SC Tax information 

SC Senior Citizens participating in the Free Tuition Program must also COMPLETE THE 60+ WAIVER FORM . *It is very important that you do not skip this step.*
