Background

Tyler L. Skinner joined the Department of Sport and Entertainment Management at the University of South Carolina in fall 2024 after completing his Ph.D. in kinesiology (sport management and policy) at the University of Georgia. With a robust academic background that includes a master's in higher education from the University of Pennsylvania and a master's in management from Wake Forest University, Skinner has cultivated deep expertise in sport economics, managerial labor markets and executive compensation.

Skinner's research contributions are numerous and diverse, focusing on critical aspects of sport management such as gender differences in executive compensation and the impact of athletic directors on organizational performance. His work has been published in prestigious journals like the American Behavioral Scientist and Sport Management Review. Skinner has also been an active presenter at numerous academic conferences, showcasing his research on topics ranging from executive-firm match performance to the influence of mentor race on NFL head coaching opportunities.

In addition to his research, Skinner has a strong teaching portfolio. At the University of Georgia, he taught various courses including introduction to sport management, and economic and policy analysis in sport. His teaching abilities were recognized with awards such as the Outstanding Teaching Assistant from the UGA Center for Teaching and Learning. Skinner's dedication to education extended beyond the classroom at UGA, as he mentored graduate teaching assistants and advised the Women in Sport club.
