Background:

Dr. Daniel Obray is an assistant professor in the Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy. He received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Utah State University and a doctorate in psychology from Brigham Young University. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training in the Department of Neuroscience at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Obray has received NIH funding to study the impact of adolescent alcohol misuse on prefrontal circuits and related behavior.

Dr. Obray joined the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in 2026.

Research Interests:

Alcohol use disorder
Neurobiology of pain
Neurodevelopment
Neuropharmacology

Research Lab:

The Obray Lab studies the impact of adolescent alcohol misuse on brain function and behavior. We are particularly interested in understanding how exposure to alcohol during adolescence alters prefrontal circuits involved in pain processing. To address these questions, we integrate circuit-level electrophysiological, molecular, and behavioral approaches.
Our primary goal is to identify the neurobiological mechanisms linking alcohol misuse and pain and to develop therapeutics that target these underlying pathways.
