Why did you choose USC Rice School of Law?
For a multitude of reasons! Aside from being financially sound and in the Southeast, the student body here is kind and caring, which carries to the alumni network as well. While I didn't know a soul when I came in, I will be leaving here with many lifelong friends. On top of that, the faculty genuinely cares about your success and wants to help you at every turn. When taking everything together, it was an easy choice and the right choice.
What advice would you give a first-year law student?
Coming from out of state and being a first-generation law student, I did not know any lawyers in the area, nor did I know anything about what it meant to be a lawyer. If you are in a similar position, start learning how to make conversation with anyone and then don't be afraid to start reaching out to lawyers in practice areas that you are interested in or want to learn more about. Everyone here is super nice and would likely be more than willing to get coffee!
What is an accomplishment in law school that you are very proud of?
I am proud that I serve on both the Student Bar Association and the Pro Bono Board at the law school. As they are elected positions, I feel that it shows my peers trust me to carry out a good job with being a voice for the students and assist with the experiential volunteer opportunities at the law school.
