Molinaroli College of Engineering and Computing

Laboratory for Structured Soft Matter Engineering (L-2SME)

Description: L-2SME focuses on the design of architected materials through directed bottom-up self-assembly, emphasizing anisotropic soft matter systems with tunable, emergent properties. Our research explores the interplay between self-assembly, topological defects, and structure–rheology relationships in highly nonlinear, far-from-equilibrium conditions. By harnessing these regimes, we engineer hierarchical, responsive materials with programmable functionality, advancing sustainable solutions for energy, health, defense, and photonics. Integrating molecular engineering with soft matter physics, our work advances the frontiers of multifunctional materials.
