Student Information

Log into Anthology Portfolio here.

Anthology Portfolio is now included as part of the COE fee structure for all students that are in an education program in the College of Education. You will be issued an account (or renewed) at the beginning of each semester. If your account has expired or you need an account, please contact candw@mailbox.sc.edu.

If you are a student in an education program that is not in the College of Education: the BA Dance Education, BM Music Education, BA Art Education, or BA Foreign Languages Education program, you will purchase an Anthology Portfolio account (or renewal code) through the USC bookstore either in person or online at the University of South Carolina Official Bookstore. If you are purchasing an account through the bookstore online, you can select EDUC as the Department, CHALK as the course, and WIRE as the section.

Please note that you can request to either have a card shipped to you with your account information on the card or request that you pick this card up from the bookstore. They are not able to email the codes.

ePortfolios may be used for more than just course work. Through Anthology Portfolio you have the ability to create unique and individualized ePortfolios for many purposes such as job search, admission to graduate school, and organizing work samples.  You can have any number of ePortfolios, but they all have one characteristic in common:  they must be well organized to be effective.

  1. In Anthology Portfolio, an ePortfolio is a collection of text, images, audio, and/or video that tells a story or provides a specific type of information for others to view or see.  This is represented in the program as an outline of pages, called a Table of Contents, that you can edit.  The following instructions, and the next tutorial, will use these concepts as you plan and then build your ePortfolio.
  2. Take a moment to consider why you are creating your ePortfolio:   What is the goal of the document (class assignment; job interview; graduate school application; etc)?  Who is going to view it (instructors, future employers, admissions committees, etc.)?  As you can create as many portfolios as you desire, making a specific portfolio for a specific purpose or person is recommended.

  3. Pausing to think about the purpose of the ePortfolio will assist in organizing your content and presenting your material in a way that is clear and consistent with your goals.
  4. Be intentional with the order and organization of your material. This is where creating your outline in the form of your Table of Contents may be helpful.
  5. Include material that you feel best represents your ability, skill, and accomplishments.
  6. Create the outline/Table of Contents first, then fill in with supporting documents and material. You can always edit and move information later.
  7. As you move through your ePortfolio, periodically step back and review it from the perspective of someone who does not know you or your work.

    • “Does this accurately portray what I want it to?”
    • “Does it make sense?”
    • “Do the pictures, video, audio, etc. support or enhance the purpose of the ePortfolio?”  If they do not, you should seriously consider removing them from the portfolio.
  8. Finally, have a trusted friend, instructor, or mentor review the portfolio before making it available to others.  Be sure that the person reviewing the portfolio knows the goal and the audience of your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Anthology Portfolio?

Anthology Portfolio is a web based e-portfolio and assessment system required for all students in the College of Education.

Why is Anthology Portfolio required?

The College of Education takes its mission of preparing students to become exceptional teachers very seriously. To that end, we have identified Anthology Portfolio as being an excellent tool to assess critical competencies identified by the College, the state of South Carolina, and national accrediting agencies such as the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

How does Anthology Portfolio work?

Many classes in the College of Education have key assessment assignments.  A Key Assessment is a program requirement that measures specific outcomes or standards, as defined by the program's professional association, usually in the form of a course assignment. Collectively, Key Assessments are used to demonstrate overall student performance across the program. Because these Key Assessments allow students to demonstrate their experience and expertise, they will form the basis of the professional portfolio created through Anthology Portfolio.

Can I create other portfolios?

Yes, in fact, we encourage you to do so. One of the major benefits for students is being able to create portfolios of text, graphics, and videos for the job market. Imagine taking key elements from your academic studies and putting them together to create a targeted portfolio for a specific job or career. You could have multiple portfolios highlighting your accomplishments in different ways for different perspective employers.

E-portfolios sound complicated. Can I do that?

It probably sounds more complicated than it really is. The good news is that the College of Education takes this very seriously and will provide training sessions, webinars, online tutorials, and other forms of support to assist you. Be on the lookout for announcements!

How do I purchase an Anthology Portfolio account? OR When I go to submit my assignment via Blackboard, I receive an error saying that I need to enter a subscription code.

In order to receive an Anthology Portfolio account code, you must purchase an account from the University bookstore. You can purchase a code in store or online at http://sc.bncollege.com. You will purchase a one-year code, and then starting next fall, your account will be automatically renewed each year. You will receive an account code (via mail or you can request to pick up from the bookstore), and can then register your account on Anthology Portfolio’s website.

How do I obtain a renewal code?

Anthology Portfolio is now included as part of the COE fee structure for all students that are in an education program in the College of Education. You will be automatically renewed at the beginning of each semester. If your account has expired and was not renewed, please email candw@mailbox.sc.edu. If you are a student in an education program that is not in the College of Education: the BA Dance Education, BM Music Education, BA Art Education, or BA Foreign Languages Education program, you will purchase an Anthology Portfolio account (or renewal code) through the USC bookstore either in person or online. If you are purchasing an account through the bookstore online, you can select EDUC as the Department, CHALK as the course, and WIRE as the section. Please note that you can request to either have a card shipped to you with your account information on the card or request that you pick this card up from the bookstore. They are not able to email the codes.

(I purchased a new account (or renewal) code but I received an error saying that I entered in an incorrect code OR that my code has already been used

Please email candw@mailbox.sc.edu.

I am receiving an error when I click on the link to submit an assignment in Blackboard saying my account is not consistent with the LMS.

More than likely, this issue is caused by you having a different email in Blackboard than Anthology Portfolio. In order to successfully submit an assignment via Blackboard linked to Anthology Portfolio, you must have the same email address in both systems. It is best to use your USC student email address if at all possible. To update to your email in Blackboard, you can start by clicking on your name in the top right corner, then Settings, Personal Information, Edit Personal Information. Alternatively, you can change your email address in Anthology Portfolio to match the one listed in Blackboard. To do this, you will log in to Anthology Portfolio, click your name in the top right corner, go to Profile Actions, Edit Profile.

I submitted my assignment, but my professor is saying that he/she cannot see it in Anthology Portfolio.

More than likely, you saved your assignment in Anthology Portfolio, but did not actually submit it to your professor. If you go back to your portfolio, after clicking on the assignment, look for a green Submit button on the right side of the screen. If you are still having issues, contact candw@mailbox.sc.edu.

I created a portfolio in Anthology Portfolio, but there is not a space to submit my assignment.

If your professor did not create a link in Blackboard and told you to submit directly to Anthology Portfolio, you must first create a portfolio for your program area linked to the correct Table of Contents. Follow the step by step directions under the Submit an Assignment within Anthology Portfolio (any assignment) tutorial under Student Information.

Why do I have to have Anthology Portfolio? I have never used it before, and it is only required for one of my courses this semester.

Anthology Portfolio is a College of Education requirement for accreditation purposes and allows for the college to gather program-wide information. Anthology Portfolio is also a portfolio system that allows you to create professional portfolios either for course requirements or individual use. It was implemented in the Fall of 2018 for all advanced programs which is why you may not have used it in the past, while initial licensure programs have been using it for some time now. Although you may only have one course this semester that requires it due to a key assessment, it is likely that you will have other courses or program assignments that require it in later semesters.
