Last week, I had the privilege of traveling to New York City with a small group of our students. Watching them step inside The New York Times, CBS and Fox News — and seeing their excitement as they connected classroom learning to real newsrooms — was a powerful reminder of why experiences like this matter. These moments broaden their perspective, sharpen their ambitions and clarify what it takes to thrive in a competitive industry.
My thanks to alumna Ainsley Earhardt for helping make this opportunity possible. Her support opened doors our students will remember for years to come.
Creating more opportunities like this is a priority, and it’s a key focus of USC’s annual giving day, Give 4 Garnet, on March 25. Imagine if every student had the chance to attend a professional conference, participate in a study-away program or travel to another city to meet employers face-to-face. These hands-on experiences strengthen confidence, build networks and translate academic preparation into career momentum.
Another important pathway to that first job is our upcoming Broadcast, Journalism & Sport Media Job & Internship Fair on March 31. We’re grateful to our presenting sponsor, Hearst Television, and our panel sponsor, Tegna, for investing in our students’ futures.
There are many meaningful ways to stay engaged with the college in the weeks ahead. Please read on and find the opportunity that speaks to you.
Forever to thee,
Dean Tom Reichert
