Clinical Legal Education

The School of Law recognizes that experiential learning in the areas of professional skills, professional ethics, and the expectations, values, and norms of the legal profession is essential to a well-rounded legal education.

The School of Law welcomes visitors to the building.  However, all visits must be scheduled in advance with the appropriate office, and all visitors must abide by all university and law school policies.

The Joseph F. Rice School of Law recognizes that experiential learning is a core part of a well-rounded legal education, providing students with critical legal skills, practical training in professional ethics, and a foundation in the expectations, values, and norms of the legal profession.

Through special student-practice rules adopted by state and federal courts, clinical students are authorized to practice law while still in school, under the supervision of experienced faculty. Students take primary responsibility for their cases, gaining firsthand experience through:  meeting with clients, negotiating with opposing parties, drafting and arguing motions, and appearing before judges and other administrative bodies.
