About

USC's Betsy Blackmon Dance Program, accredited nationally by the National Association of Schools of Dance, has been structured to challenge serious students with a variety of learning and performance opportunities.  We regularly bring in well-known guest artists to stage masterworks or create original choreography for our dancers.

Working from a solid foundational core of dance coursework, students can earn an undergraduate degree in dance as well as develop advanced competencies in the areas of Performance and Choreography or Dance Education K-12 CertificationOur experienced faculty strives to instill a sound foundation of guided practice in the disciplines and principles of classical ballet and contemporary dance. The program has a long-established specialty in ballet infused with the energy of cutting-edge contemporary dance.

Our Facilities

The home of the Betsy Blackmon Dance Program is a modern facility that includes three large studios that can expand into six studios when needed for additional rehearsal space. The building also houses the program's offices, classrooms and meeting spaces for students, faculty and guest artists.

USC Dance Days

If you are a high school Junior or Senior and interested in majoring in dance, come see us in Columbia on the beautiful USC campus on April 5, 2025 for USC Dance Day!  During your visit you will tour the facilities, gain insight into what it is like to be a dance major at USC, take a dance class from one of our talented dance faculty members, tour campus, speak with current dance students, and see a live performance. If you would like to reserve your spot for one of our USC Dance Days please email us at dance@sc.edu. There is maximum of 40 dancers per day.

USC Dance Days is not an audition. If you are interested in being a dance major, you are still required to apply for enrollment to the university, as well as submit a program application and audition via AcceptD.

We are excited to show you our program!
