Our Staff

The Writing Center is staffed by graduate students. Each staff member has at least a Bachelor’s degree and is pursuing an M.A., M.F.A., or Ph. D in an English discipline.

Meg

Meg (she/her)
Assistant Director

Meg is a doctoral student at the University of South Carolina studying Composition and Rhetoric. Her background in English Education and Women’s and Gender Studies informs her critical research on gender-neutral language use, first-year composition textbooks, and rhetorical action and enaction to challenge linguistic violence in the U.S. Her aim is to continue the work of undoing systemic injustice through understanding and navigating complex terrains with rhetorical intentionality. Her work can be seen in Critical Sexuality Studies, Lavender Languages, and Everyday Life (Bloomsbury, 2024) and in Ex ӕquo 49 (2024).


Sam

Sam (she/her)
Assistant Director

Sam is a second year PhD student in Composition and Rhetoric and an English instructor at UofSC. She earned her both her BA (2021) and MA  (2023) in English from Winthrop University. While at Winthrop, she worked as a tutor in the WC at Winthrop University. Sam enjoys working with students across all disciplines and helping them strengthen their writing skills.


Fiona

Shift Manager

Fiona is a second-year MFA student studying poetry, as well as an instructor of English at UofSC. She earned her Bachelor’s in English and Psychology at Davidson College. She enjoys helping writers at all stages of the writing process, and teaching concepts in writing and composition as well as creative writing.


Aj

Aj (she/her)
Tutor

My name is Aj (she/her). I am a first year M.A. student studying English literature. I earned my B.S.Ed. in English secondary education from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania and taught ninth grade English during the process. I am also a co-author of "The purpose of social infrastructure: Designing culturally responsive bridges in secondary classrooms," a conference paper that explores teachers as bridge builders -- social engineers tasked with cultivating links between learners and communities.


Alysha

Alysha (she/her)
Tutor

My name is Alysha, and I use she/her pronouns. I am from Greenville, South Carolina. I am a first year MFA student in fiction. I recently graduated from Furman University with a BA in English and Theatre. I love writing in all its forms and stages, but my favorite stage is the editing and rewriting process. In addition to prose, I also love and dabble in play writing and screen writing. I am very excited to be here at USC!

My name is Anna (she/her). I am a recent graduate from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, VA. I have a BA in English and am currently pursuing my MA in English as well. Some of my favorite topics to study include entertainment media, children's literature, and journalism.

Grace is a first-year Master's student studying English literature at the University of South Carolina. She graduated from the University of South Florida with degrees in English and Psychology and enjoys helping students strengthen their writing skills.

I received my BA in English from University of South Carolina (2013) with a concentration in creative writing. I taught for several years before returning as a graduate student where I am working towards my MA in English and Library Sciences.

Nneoma (she/her) is an MFA student in poetry. She loves writing, enjoys working with students, and has experience as a high school English teacher.


Riley

Riley (she/her)

Riley (she/her) is a first-year graduate student in the Direct Admission PhD program at USC. Her passions include English and American literature, creative writing, and helping clients become better writers overall. She is a South Carolina native and received her Bachelor’s in English from the University of South Carolina.


Sophia

Sophia is a first-year MA student in English and American Literature whose research interests are mainly in 19th and 20th century literature by women of color. Her aim as a writing tutor is to assist with making the writing process smoother, as well as facilitate a comfortable, inclusive academic environment, for all students.
