Is Dual Enrollment right for your high school student?
- DE is for high school juniors and seniors to take college courses to satisfy high school graduation requirements.
- DE is for academically motivated and mature students to begin college early and save money.
Initial Eligibility Requirements
- High school unweighted 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
- Recommendation from counselor or high school principal.
Continued Eligibility
Students must
- Complete a new application every academic year.
- Maintain a 2.0 college grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
- Pass at least 67% of all attempted courses.

Students are responsible for:
- Having the necessary technology to access instruction.
- Actively communicating with their advisors, counselors, and instructors to stay informed about course expectations, progress, and any relevant updates.
- Checking USC email account and Blackboard regularly.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act protects the privacy of student education records.
- Allows the parent to communicate with the University regarding general performance
if the FERPA form is on file.

- No correlation between the university and high school calendars.
- There will be days when you are out of class at your high school but have class at USC Salkehatchie – and vice versa; this includes spring break.
- All grades, including “W” and “WF” become a part of the student’s permanent college transcript.
- Grades earned may also affect postsecondary admission, scholarship, and financial opportunities.
- Students may also be financially responsible for Inclusive Access and the cost of tuition if HSLTAP requirements are not met.
- Only letter grades are required for USC Salkehatchie. Numerical and letter grades will be provided to each high school at the end of each semester for report cards, GPA, and class rank purposes.

High School Lottery Tuition Assistance Program (HSLTAP) covers only tuition. Students are responsible for books, lab fees, and course materials.
- Students must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents, and a resident of South Carolina in addition to meeting the GPA and school counselor requirements.
- Parents, students and their school counselors should select courses to meet high school graduation and college degree requirements
- General education courses are strongly encouraged.
- Credit earned by satisfactory completion of dual enrollment courses (usually an earned grade of “C” or higher) will transfer to public South Carolina institutions, provided that the course is included on the List of Transferable Courses in the Statewide Transfer and Articulation Policy.
- Students are responsible for contacting the higher education institution to see if the course credit will be accepted.

- Students who wish to drop or withdraw from a course are responsible for notifying their high school counselor and the dual enrollment coordinator, Jackie Gallagher, by the published deadline dates on the academic calendar by session.
- Students must notify their school counselor if they choose to drop or withdraw from a course.
- Dual enrollment students are required to abide by the same guidelines outlined in USC Salkehatchie’s Student Handbook, which contains the academic calendar, code of conduct, students’ rights and responsibilities, grading and evaluation process, academic dishonesty, and disciplinary procedures.
- No exceptions to these guidelines will be made for dual enrollment students.
