Special Topics in Popular Music
This course will explore the development of rock (and popular music) through the lens of four key themes: social, political, and cultural issues; issues of race, class, and gender; the development of the music industry; and the development of technology.
Learning Outcomes
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Discuss the origins of rock and roll and the development throughout the decades
- Define and recognize basic music elements
- Recognize various genres in rock (and popular) music from the 1920s to the present
- Develop critical thinking to make educated decisions on what you do/do not like about music
