Be sure to make time for your friends and family because that time is absolutely invaluable!
Impactful experience:
One of my most impactful experiences inside the classroom has been taking Coffee,
Tea, and Crafts with Dr. Harrill. In this class, we explored not only the making/consumption
of these beverages but their strong impact in local economic development. Over this
course, we talked with several local businesses (Indah Coffee, The Grand on Main,
and Steel Hands Brewing) which further highlighted how local leadership can positively
affect the community.
Enjoy most as a TS:
As a Top Scholar, I most enjoy the constant, unconditional support we are given. This
support extends to both to our fellow scholars as well as the Top Scholar staff that
go above and beyond to help us with anything. From internship application advice to
checking up on us, I know I have the unparalleled backing of the Top Scholar Program.
Story:
Coming to UofSC, I knew I was interested in sports and medicine. Both the Honors College
and the Top Scholars Program helped me pursue the intersection of these interests with
a health internship at Special Olympics South Carolina. In this time, I broadened
my perspective on the diverse populations around us and the health barriers they face
- all while staying close to sports. UofSC has pushed me to value and emphasize the
time outside the classroom. Through this, I have formed lifelong relationships with
friends and mentors that have facilitated my professional and personal development.
I am looking forward to a career that will build upon the strong foundation UofSC
has provided me.
Post-graduate plans:
Travis will begin his medical education at the UofSC School of Medicine Greenville
in the fall.
Career goals/professional aspirations:
My career goals are to become a sports medicine physician. In broad terms, I hope
to be a pillar of support in my community to promote health lifestyles and well-being
for everyone.
