Purpose and Powers of the Faculty Senate
The university faculty has legislative powers in all matters pertaining to standards
of admission, registration, requirements for and the granting of earned degrees, curriculum,
instruction, research, extracurricular activities, discipline of students, educational
policies and standards of the university, and all other matters pertaining to the
conduct of faculty affairs, including the discipline of their own members.
The Faculty Senate of the University of South Carolina, having been created by direction
of the university faculty to act by and for that body, is endowed with all the powers
and authority of the university faculty except for those powers specifically reserved
by that body to itself, provided that the university faculty may amend or repeal any
general policy decisions adopted by the Faculty Senate. — From the Faculty Manual
