Our team welcomes every opportunity to partner with faculty and staff  members to schedule presentations for your class. We can be completely flexible, taking 10 minutes to provide an overview of Career Center services or we can use a full class period to present on the topic of your choice.

Crafting Your Resume

In this interactive workshop, learn how to create a standout resume that captures your unique career journey and skills. We'll cover the essentials of resume structure, the importance of action verbs, how to tailor your resume to specific job applications, and discuss how Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) impact resume submissions. Attendees will leave with actionable tips and the confidence to craft a resume that opens doors.  

Note: Presentations are tailored to appeal to different audiences and learning preferences, ensuring there's something suitable for everyone looking to build a resume or enhance a resume they already have. No previous resume is required to attend this session. If students have a resume, they are encouraged to bring it to the session. 

From Classroom to Career: Tailoring Your Job Search in College

Transitioning from college to career can be challenging. This targeted presentation helps students understand how to tailor their job search to match their academic experiences with market needs. Topics include understanding job market trends, how to effectively use job search engines, and how to actively engage with the USC Career Center. The presenter will help you identify your transferable skills and how to customize applications for specific roles. We'll also discuss how to make the most of Campus Career Fairs and Employer Engagement on campus. 

Note: This presentation is structured to provide practical advice and actionable steps to help college students effectively navigate the complexities of the job search process, positioning themselves for successful entry into the workforce. 

First Impressions Count: Nailing Your Job Interview

This presentation will cover interviewing basics and is ideal for students preparing for entry into the professional job market. Learn the keys to making a stellar first impression, including attire, punctuality, and body language. As virtual interviews become more common, being tech-savvy is also crucial. We’ll discuss environmental preparations, how to convey warmth and professionalism through a screen, and master the nuances of digital communication.  Understand the importance of preparing insightful questions to engage your interviewer and demonstrate your interest in the role and company. We’ll cover the essentials of researching the company, practicing your responses, and following up after the interview to maximize your chances of success.  

Note: This presentation is crafted to empower college students with the knowledge and skills they need to confidently tackle job interviews, from understanding the basics to mastering the complexities of modern interview environments.  

Interview Preparation: Beyond the Basics

Elevate your interview skills with this advanced session, designed for students who understand the basics but want to deepen their interviewing techniques. Discover strategies for handling behavioral questions using the STAR method, techniques for staying composed under pressure, and ways to discuss internship experiences as real job experience. We'll also touch on navigating group interviews and panel settings.

Note: This practical hands-on workshop is designed for students who have attended the Basic Interview presentation. This presentation may occasionally incorporate Employer Partners. 

Mastering LInkedIn: From Profile Setup to Professional Networking

This comprehensive session covers all aspects of LinkedIn, from basic setup to sophisticated networking techniques. Begin with a step-by-step guide to setting up a complete and appealing LinkedIn profile. Move on to learning how to effectively showcase your skills, academic achievements, and project work. Discover strategies for growing your network with thoughtful engagement and professional etiquette. Finally, understand how to maintain your LinkedIn presence with regular updates and contributions to discussions in your field. This presentation is designed to empower students with the tools to use LinkedIn not just as a job search platform, but as a continuous career development tool.  

Note: This presentation aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively use LinkedIn as a key tool in their professional toolkit, from building a standout profile to engaging in meaningful networking. This is a hands-on experience, and students are encouraged to bring laptops. 

Building Your Professional Circle as a College Student

This engaging presentation introduces students to the fundamentals of professional networking. Learn how to start building your network with confidence, from attending industry conferences and networking events to engaging on professional social media platforms like LinkedIn and the USC Career Center’s Mentorship Hub. Discover the importance of creating a strong first impression, crafting an effective elevator pitch, and the basics of follow-up etiquette. Gain practical tips on how to approach professionals for advice, mentorship, and job opportunities. This session is designed to demystify networking and show students that it's about building genuine relationships that can lead to career opportunities and personal growth.  

Note: Aims to provide college students with actionable strategies and insights to effectively start and enhance their networking skills, ultimately helping them build a professional network that supports their career aspirations.  

In this session, we will explore the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence and its proper applications in career services. Participants will understand how AI can be useful in researching jobs and skill development. We will also discuss the benefits of using AI responsibly and safely to generate information.  Additionally, we will cover the AI-driven interview preparation platform, Big Interview that simulates real interview scenarios, helping candidates improve their performance and confidence. Students are encouraged to bring their laptops for this session. 

Interview LIke a Star

In this workshop, participants will gain a foundational understanding of behavioral interviewing techniques. We will cover the principles behind behavioral interviews, why they are used by employers, and how they differ from traditional interview formats. Attendees will learn the importance of preparing specific examples that demonstrate their skills and experiences. 

We can also administer assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (SII). Or, if you have a particular topic in mind that is not listed above, we will make every attempt to accommodate your request.
