PRIDE CARES Center

PRIDE CARES (Patient-Responsive Initiatives for Diverse Engagement – Connecting Affirming Resources, Education, and Support) is a program of the Patient Engagement Studio dedicated to elevating LGBTQ+ voices in health research, particularly those with lived experience of substance use disorder (SUD).

About the Center

Initially funded in 2024 through a National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant, PRIDE CARES recruited and trained 14 LGBTQ+ individuals with SUD experience to serve as patient experts. These individuals now work alongside researchers to improve the cultural relevance, inclusivity, and impact of health research focused on this community.

Today, PRIDE CARES serves as an ongoing resource for investigators seeking meaningful collaboration with LGBTQ+ populations. Whether shaping research priorities, refining study designs, or co-developing solutions, PRIDE CARES ensures that LGBTQ+ individuals are not just included, but are empowered as co-creators in the research process.
