Bio
Background: | I obtained my medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 2014. I completed internal medicine residency at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and completed an additional fourth year as one of the chief residents. I had a strong interest in pulmonary and critical care throughout residency and had the opportunity to pursue this fellowship at the University of Michigan from 2018–2021. Part of my fellowship training was heavily influenced by the COVID-19 pandemic which was impactful in my critical care education. I have had a strong academic interest in medical education throughout my career and was excited to join Prisma in the fall 2021 given the myriad of academic opportunities. At present time, I have protected time as the 5C pulmonary medical director at Greenville Memorial Hospital as well as core faculty for the internal medicine residency program. I am part of the advanced macroscopy team and have a clinical interest in lung cancer as well as chronic respiratory failure. |
Teaching Interest(s): | My major teaching interests include using simulation and mannequin based training to improve clinical reasoning and procedural competency. I have created a robust curriculum for internal medicine residents to help with procedural competency for a variety of common, bedside procedures performed in the hospital. I also enjoyed replicating high stress clinical encounters such as rapid response encounters and cardiac arrests to help residents with decision making with critically ill patients. |
Research Interest(s): | I have a broad range of research interests. I most enjoy implementing quality improvement processes in the intensive care unit such as helping to start the ICU rounding A–F bundle in 2023. I have a strong clinical interest in chronic respiratory failure and have published numerous peer reviewed articles and book chapters regarding this disease state and associated treatment with noninvasive ventilation. |
